Pole construction definitely has its benefits for a cabin. But there’s also new complications introduced working with round members and dimensional lumber. Measurements aren’t going to work out exactly.
I managed to magnify this by burying the poles a few inches off in either direction. Now I’m worried what’s happening at the tops of these poles. The spans may be even longer than the 16-foot boards that we have to form the central roof beam. I know now to always err on the side of making a span smaller than intended.
Round poles meeting square lumber also means gaps and holes. I heard yesterday that a mouse can chew into a gap the width of a dime. Enter mouse wire. This stuff’s like chain link fence topped with razor wire for mice. Really it’s mesh but when you cut it with tin snips it leaves these pointy ends around it. As advised by Rich’s wife, Lisa, I’m thinking like a mouse and patching whatever gap I can find.
